About this deal

This appeared to be a gentle story about male friendship which is rarely the main topic of novels so I started it positively. The Man I Think I Know by Mike Gayle is amazing! Really uplifting and a jolly good read to boot -- Katie Fforde Mike Gayle is one of Britain's favourite authors, I have to admit that is the first book of his that I have read! Thanks to LoveReading for giving me the opportunity to read and review 'The Man I Think I Know' I will now be looking out for more of his work. A very special book. A moving, thought-provoking storyline told with humour and insight. I loved the distinctive voices of James and Danny and really missed them when I finished it! (Tracy Rees) When his sister books their parents on a cruise for their wedding anniversary, there's nowhere James can go apart from the respite home, as his disabilities mean he cannot do things for, or look after, himself and depends on the help of others.

Saya "dirasuk syaitan" apabila berada di kedai buku. Tetap juga gatal tangan mahu membeli, walhal yang masih elok berbalut belum dibaca di rumah sudah bertingkat-tingkat. PDF / EPUB File Name: The_Man_I_Think_I_Know_-_Mike_Gayle.pdf, The_Man_I_Think_I_Know_-_Mike_Gayle.epub James DeWitt should also be in a high flying job, having previously been elected as an MP, but things took a drastic change when he was involved in an incident that left him with a brain injury. The things the characters are forced to deal with, those many things in their lives are true to life, and the way they're dealt with is realistic, relatable and believable. The author offers also a very deep and detailed insight into a life with ABI - acquired brain injury and I loved the way it was dealt with, with tons of understanding and subtlety but without pitying. With his words, he touches upon the right heart - strings.I was also born in Birmingham — in my humble opinion the greatest city in the world with the nicest people too. James, oh how my heart broke for him and his family. His sister, mother and father treats him like a small boy and whilst you can completely understand that they want to wrap him in cotton wool and protect him from the world having nearly lost him, reading from James' point of view, you can see why he is utterly frustrated. He is a grown man with adult thoughts and cannot always express how he feels articulately. It is food for thought thinking of those living with acquired brain injury (ABI) and those supporting them.

It was an accident that changed James’s life and now he is looked after affectionately by his parents. But his sister Martha believes that the role of full-time carers is destroying their lives – and infantilising her brother. It’s a bit weird,” says Danny to James and indeed it is. Here are two thirty-six year old single young men who were once rival star scholars at an elite public boarding school now damaged. Danny was the scholarship student from a council estate, James an upper-class lad from wealthy parents. Both have sunk into a pit. How they got there and are desperately trying to climb out makes for a sensitive and highly compulsive read. Danny suffered loss and has been unable to get over the trauma, James had an “incident” which has left him brain damaged, he is now looked after by his restrictive parents. James is inadvertently responsible for Danny quitting his job and so hits upon the idea of being able to get away from his parents by having Danny look after him. A bit weird indeed. I truly loved this book, unusual for Mike Gayle and very special indeed. Beautifully written, thought-provoking and completely charming . . . reminds us that the everyday things we take for granted without realising how precious they are, can be snatched away in an instant with catastrophic consequences’ Ruth Hogan MIKE GAYLE was born and raised in,Birmingham. After graduating from Salford University with a degree in Sociology, he moved to London to pursue a career in journalism and worked as a features editor and agony uncle. He has written for a variety of publications including The Sunday Times, the Guardian and Cosmopolitan. The thing that really stood out for me, though, was that James fought for what HE wanted for HIS life, and was not dictated to by his parents.Dystopian Fiction Books Everyone Should Read: Explore The Darker Side of Possible Worlds and Alternative Futures Sebenarnya boleh saja, dengan kawalan yang cermat saya boleh saja kembali aktif. Perlu tahu had diri. Itu saja. Overall rating:“The Man I Think I Know” is a lovely story of male friendship and overcoming life’s difficulties. It may be cheesy and predictable in parts, but it works and I’ve returned this book to the library with a smile on my face. Mike Gayle‘s getting 4 stars from me for this one.

Bahasa Inggerisnya "mudah" untuk saya baca dan faham. Dan mengejutkan juga saya boleh tamat bacaan dalam tempoh 3 hari untuk buku English setebal 310 muka surat.Beautifully written, thought-provoking and completely charming . . . reminds us that the everyday things we take for granted without realising how precious they are, can be snatched away in an instant with catastrophic consequences' Ruth Hogan I'd read a few books prior to this one that I really hadn't enjoyed so had expectations that this one would give me some inspiration. Mike Gayle is the king of touching, human stories, and this big-hearted book is his best yet. 5* * Heat * Bob Mortimer wins 2023 Bollinger Everyman Wodehouse Prize for Comic Fiction with The Satsuma Complex I have always enjoyed Mike Gayle's writing but although this does feature male friendship this a book that is sweet, heartwarming, and talks of new chances and two characters who really do experience huge personal growth as the story progresses.

Kerana temanya tentang persahabatan antara dua lelaki (bukan geng "kunyit", ya). Tema yang jarang diangkat dalam novel. Things can happen in our lives that can change our whole being. Who we are now and who we were meant to be. For James and Danny, this was exactly the case. Two young men coming head on to help each other confront two very different tragedies. If the pair had not met by chance and a change of circumstances in their home lives they would never have met and their lives would have remained the same. Mike is always wise and wonderful, but this is a whole new departure for him - read it! -- Jenny Colgan James was living a privileged life as an MP and property developer. He had it all. This is, until "the Incident" that left him with Acquired Brain Injury (ABI). His world from then on is reduced to his overprotective parents and sister. Depressed and unemployed, Danny is facing an ultimatum from his girlfriend Maya: if he doesn't get out and get a job, she's leaving. This is the story of Danny and James, but also of the families who love them and of the women they love. It is a story of many surprising twists, by turns funny and sad, painful and uplifting, and marks a brilliant new stage in the writing career of one of Britain’s favourite novelists. I was charmed by the innocence that the brain injury seems to bring to everyone's lives and liked the use of the recovery stages.
