About this deal

When I first started doing the Money Mindful Method my original kind of goal was actually to teach people how to shop smarter. It was two months in that I realised how much sustainability is linked with the quality of our clothing. Right now, brands are controlling the narrative about what sustainability means, but people now want to shop more consciously and understand what that means. What fabrics do you choose, and which ones do you avoid? Tan, Celine. “ “I Still Go To The Kopitiam In T-Shirt, FBT Shorts and Slippers. I’m Not Affected By The Number Of Followers I Have””. 8 Days. May 16, 2017. Accessed on 26 February 2019. It would not be a complete review without covering the negative points of the book. There are not many but here are a couple: When asked if they believed they could contribute to ideas that might make a technological difference to the world, nearly half (47%) said they believe they can innovate or contribute ideas if they had the right support; and 76% believe there is untapped potential in young people which would benefit the tech industry, showing despite the challenges, there is optimism amongst the nation’s youth. In early 2019, Andrea worked with Superga to release three variations of slip-on shoes featuring jute soles. The shoebox for this collection was illustrated by Filipino artist Soleil Ignacio.

Why don’t I have anything to wear?” It’s a question that many of us constantly ask ourselves – no matter the amount of clothes overspilling from our wardrobes – and one that often leads to us buying more, impulse shopping ahead of a big event, before ending up in exactly the same position next time around. Cheng, Renae. “ 100PLUS x Drea Chong Are Launching Limited Edition Tumblers Inspired By 2019's Bold Prints Trend”. The Smart Local. February 22, 2019. Accessed on 26 February 2019. Have you ever opened your wardrobe, filled with clothes, and felt you had nothing to wear? Have you ever bought a jumper that only lasted a few washes? Have you ever wondered if an item of clothing was actually worth the price for the quality? Andrea: I just started my internship which is three days a week, and I have a 10,000 word dissertation to write, I have so much to handle but it’s going to be worth it. Oddly enough, I get stressed out when I have nothing to do and I feel safer when I know I’m doing too much. I’m quite disciplined and self-motivated. But saying that, I haven’t actually posted that much on my blog recently. Foo, Nadia Illyana. " The real Andrea Chong behind @dreachong". Youth.sg. July 25, 2019. Accessed on 24 July 2020.

The answers are hung up on rails and folded in the drawers of our homes right now. As the creator of the Mindful Monday Method and the author of Why Don’t I Have Anything to Wear?, I’d suggest you ask yourself these questions to help you shop smarter and spend less. Question one: What do I already own? Lee, Kien M.. “ Meet the Instagirl of the Moment — Andrea Chong”. Senatus. September 2, 2014. Accessed on 26 February 2019. Her World Brides and Nadine Chua. " 13 Celebrities Share Their Post-Wedding & Marriage Tips". Hew World. June 17, 2020. Accessed on 24 July 2020. I believe that following my method can break our impulsive shopping habits and improve our wellbeing. Best of all, it’s learning to shop for the modern day, which means that whether or not you care about sustainability, you’ll find it easier to make choices that better the environment. It’s time to be an empowered shopper, and I’m so excited to share my book with readers.” Sure looking at quality and sustainability are important, but not all of us want to look the same - and if everyone started wearing cashmere sweaters from places like Uniqlo - then surely we would have a cashmere problem, let alone the unsustainability of said purchasing.

I really appreciated the amount of research that went into the book, from details about materials and their manufacturing processes to quotes from businesses trying to operate more sustainably within the fashion world. The charts showing perceived quality using her method versus price were enlightening (although some detailed information on how she quantified "quality" would have been nice!). I definitely learned something new reading it, even though I've been following Andrea's content on social media for a while. I also found the book written in a very engaging way, and I definitely enjoy Andrea's sense of humour. Also, the illustrations in the book, all done by Andrea are beautiful and add to the reading experience. Goh, Bryan. “ SUPERGA IS PARTNERING WITH ANDREA CHONG FOR A SECOND TIME AND IT’S A DO-IT-ALL SNEAKER FOR SUMMER”. HerWorld. January 18, 2019. Accessed on 26 January 2019.

Our partnership aims to break down barriers, inspire confidence and pave the way for a brighter tomorrow. The benefits are not just for these girls alone, but for society, as we empower them to become tomorrow’s leaders, innovators and changemakers, and we cannot wait to start the work.”

After doing a wardrobe audit, Cheong then advises you to do a budget review and set out your sustainability goals, before thinking about material composition and quality (the author regularly posts videos of herself assessing the designs of various brands). “All of these things help to inform an individual shopper how to shop best for themselves,” she explains.Yeo, Melissa. “ 10 Andrea Chong Facts That Prove She’s Singapore’s Very Own Taylor Swift”. MustShareNews. January 15, 2016. Accessed on 26 February 2019. Let’s make this clear: the most sustainable jeans you can get are the ones straight from your wardrobe. The next best thing would be secondhand. Denim has a reputation for being one of the most unsustainable garments. The process uses an astonishing amount of H20—just try to picture 10,000 litres. You probably can’t. So that’s why they say to picture 13 years worth of drinking water for an individual. Then there’s the dyeing of denim, which often involves toxic dyes that pollute waterways. Oh, it doesn’t end there. Often, our favourite wardrobe essential is made with more elastane than “necessary”. While elastane may provide some comfort, it’s not considered a sustainable addition to what would otherwise be a natural fibre because it’s not biodegradable and is derived from fossil fuel production. However, if you're inclined to a little stretch in your jeans, look for up to 2% elastane and opt for recycled options wherever possible. Emma: You obviously enjoy blogging but how to you juggle keeping it up to date with academic work and this new internship? Does it ever become a chore?
