About this deal

So of course I loved this exploration of how a character can walk away from his life, how he can explore, through words and conversations, another life (not just the present).

Night Train to Lisbon - Wikipedia

P.S. И отново се срещаме с моите стари неприятели - лошата работа на редактора и коректора по изданието. Книгата е оформена добре, отпечатанана на плътна и качествена хартия и е просто почти непоносимо изобилието от печатни, смислови и стилистични грешки. As i read it I became more and more surprised that anyone had put it on the list - it was very light read , quite a fast-paced story about spying in the 1930s (a British scientist, wrongly suspected of spying for Germany, falls for an American girl on her first trip to Europe - England and then Lisbon). We are all patchwork, and so shapeless and diverse in composition that each bit, each moment, plays its own game. And there is as much difference between us and ourselves as between us and others”

Night Train To Lisbon - Pascal Mercier - Google Books

Gregorius meets several people close to the doctor, and between their stories and the passages from the book interspersed throughout the story, learns more about this remarkable figure. The real night train from Hendaye (France) to Lisbon was stopped since the Covid pandemic after running for decades. All train connections from France to Portugal have been cancelled in 2022 due to the Spanish-French Railroad War. [2] Characters [ edit ] As the stories of Gregorius and de Prado draw together, this becomes a moving meditation on the defining moments in our lives, the "silent explosions that change everything." Recommended for all fiction collections." - Library Journal. The novel, as mesmerizing and dreamlike as a Wong Kar-wai film, with characters as strange and alienated as any of the filmmaker’s, is in fact preoccupied with translation, with all that can be lost or gained in the process. But more than that, it is concerned with the power of language to forge and dismantle people’s experiences, desires, and identities. (…) When a character undertakes this level of soul-searching, the temptation to over philosophize can be difficult to resist, and at times, Mercier succumbs, as with his drawn-out life-as-a-long-train-ride metaphor" - Amy Rosenberg, BookforumTram: Perhaps the most typical means of transport in Lisbon, it has five lines and is a great way to explore the city. Especially known is the number 28, which runs through the historic centre.

Rooney, David (13 February 2013). "Night Train to Lisbon: Berlin Review". The Hollywood Reporter . Retrieved 30 June 2021. Taxis: In Lisbon, there are also many taxis, beige and, generally, cheaper than those of other cities in Europe.

Magical. Profoundly moving. Overwhelmingly beautiful. Compelling exploration of consciousness and the inner life. Bicycle: The traffic, the slopes, the tram or the cobblestones can make the bicycle a challenge. However, the city has some stretches of bike lanes that make pedalling a good way to visit certain areas, among which the Ribera del Tajo area, where you can find several bike rental companies.
